Cynthia Louise Hollingsworth
1955 - 2026
Cynthia Louise Hollingsworth died on July 12, 2026, with the prayers of family and friends around the world surrounding her. Known to many as Cindy, she built a life marked by teaching, music, travel, performance, and enduring friendships.
Born on December 9, 1955, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Colvin "Doc" Hollingsworth and Louise (Hall) Hollingsworth, Cynthia graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School and recently helped a classmate organize their 50th reunion. She earned a B.A. in Education from Florida Bible College and an
M.A. in Education from Tennessee Temple University.
Cynthia spent 39 years teaching honors math while also guiding the yearbook, coaching cheerleading, keeping statistics and recording various sports, chaperoning annual ski trips, and mentoring high school students. In Islamorada, Florida, she was deeply involved in the Keys community through the Keys Players, local government work, volunteering, and fishing with friends. After retiring, she moved to Greenville, South Carolina, joining other "conchs" from Island Christian School/Church.
Her career and adventures also took her abroad. In Doha, Qatar, she taught for five years at Vision International School, where she taught separate classes for boys and girls and embraced the expatriate community. She attended embassy balls, sang with community choirs that performed twice at Carnegie Hall, explored the souks, camped in the desert, and traveled internationally with friends. Later, she served as head of school at Cumberland School in Vineland, New Jersey, navigating the school's accreditation process. She was also devoted to Sweet Pea, her rescued dog from Qatar.
In retirement, Cynthia continued to travel, volunteer, sing in her church choir and community choir, and enjoy her neighbors and friends.
She is remembered by her brothers and their families: Frank and Kathy (Bryan) Hollingsworth; nieces Torey (Michael McGovern, great-niece June) and Meredith (Kyle Marks, great dog Rigatoni); Jeff and Jeni(Murphy) Hollingsworth; nieces Tamara and Morganne; Aunt Oferral "Pinkie" Bryant; numerous cousins; and many sisters, brothers, nephews, and nieces by choice. A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to I :00 p.m. at Fort Lauderdale First Baptist Church. The service will be livestreamed on YouTube. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those whose lives were touched by Cynthia to share memories, messages, photographs, or videos in celebration of her life and lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
