Theme: The Blessed live God’s Word Psalm 119 Psalm 119 begins with two Blessed statements: The blessed blamelessly walk according to God's Law. The blessed obey by seeking Him with all their heart. How do we experience this blessing of God’s Word? Prayer (4–8) Desire: Longing to obey God (4–5) Anticipated Results: no shame; pure heart; deliverance (6–8) Resolve: praise and obedience (7–8) Commitment to Living God's Word (9–16) Seek wholeheartedly (10) Store up God’s Word (11) Speak God’s Word (13) Rejoice in God’s Word (14) Meditate on God’s Word (15) Delight in God’s Word (16) Main idea: Flourishing comes for those who seek relationship with God by committing their lives to His Word. Application Questions: Do you think this psalm creates an unrealistic goal in relation to love for and obedience of God’s Word? Why or why not? Why do struggle with connecting obedience to God’s Word with our relationship to God? What do we tend to do with obedience (cf. Gal. 2:15–16)? How can we strike the proper balance for obedience to God in our lives according to this psalm? What verses contain elements of prayer in them? How do prayer and desire for God’s Word work together as revealed in this psalm? In what ways are you storing up God’s Word in your heart? Do you have the same desire and longing to know and walk with God as the psalmist expressed here? If not, what areas discussed here need attention? How can this begin to get addressed this week?
